In the process of operation of a railway wheel, a cyclic load acts on it.
The value of vertical and horizontal loads, according to the terms of reference:
vertical load, P = 23.5 t.

The company R&D Center "APM" performed strength and fatigue calculations of a railway wheel with an annular groove at the inner end of the hub.
Railway wheels are the most important structural elements of any railway vehicle - wagons (freight and passenger) and traction rolling stock (locomotives and electric locomotives). All railway wheels are made of special low-alloy carbon steels.
A one-piece railway wheel has three main structural elements: the hub, rims, and rim.
The role of the hub is to ensure a strong connection between the wheel and the axle. The rim of the wheel is in direct contact with the rail, and the disc connects the hub and rim to each other. The outer surface of the rim, which is in direct contact with the steel rail, is called the rolling surface, and its protruding part is called the ridge or flange.
The calculation was performed in the APM WinMachine software produc

The calculations for the strength of a railway wheel, with a defect in the form of an annular groove at the inner end of the hub, showed that at the given loads, the equivalent stresses arising in the wheel elements do not exceed the tensile strength of the materials used.
The greatest stresses occur on the inner surface of the wheel hub.
Analysis of the fatigue calculation results showed that the wheel with a flat-conical disc has
A significant amount of fatigue resistance margin is associated with the practical absence of cyclic load in this area of the wheel.
Wheels with a flat-conical disc with a ring defect (up to 20x5 in size) have sufficient static and fatigue strength, and the presence of an annular groove does not have a significant impact on the distribution of stresses in the wheel hub.
The work carried out showed the applicability of the APM WinMachine software package for solving complex problems of strength analysis of railway transport.

In accordance with the terms of reference, a simulation of a defect in the form of an annular groove located in the center of the hub wall of the inner end of the railway wheel was performed.
The wheel rests on the inner, cylindrical surface. There are a total of 12600 control points in the calculated model. The restrictions introduced in this case correspond to the hinge fastening. The fastening scheme is shown in the figure below.
According to the terms of reference, the wheel is pressed onto the axle with an interference of 0.25 mm.
To determine the forces acting in the pressing zones, it is necessary to solve the Lame problem.
